End of Life Care:
Making the Difficult
Decisions For Your Pet

Losing a pet can be a devastating experience, and it’s normal to feel grief and sadness when they pass away. It can be difficult to cope with the loss of a companion who has been a loyal and loving part of your life. However, there are resources for coping with pet loss.

🐾 Allow yourself to grieve and express your emotions.

  1.  It’s normal to feel a range of emotions after losing a pet, including sadness, anger, and guilt. You may find it helpful to talk to friends, family, or a therapist about your feelings, or to write down your thoughts and memories in a journal or letter.

🐾 Find ways to remember and honor your pet.

There are many ways you can keep your pet’s memory alive, such as creating a memorial for them, donating to a pet-related charity in their name, or rescuing another pet in need.

🐾 Take care of yourself physically and emotionally.

This can include eating well, exercising, getting enough sleep, and seeking support from others. You may also find comfort in activities that you enjoy, such as spending time with friends and loved ones, pursuing a hobby, or engaging in a favorite pastime.

🐾 Give yourself time to heal.

The grieving process can take time, and it’s okay to take things one day at a time. It’s also okay to ask for help if you need it, whether from friends, family, or a professional.

Losing a pet can be a difficult experience, but by taking care of yourself and finding ways to remember and honor your pet, you can begin to move forward. It may take time, but with support and self-care, you can heal and find joy in life again.
